How
to start the simulator automatically after booting
The abstract theory
is simple. Each modern operating system has a ästartupä folder
that is being checked right after booting. Each item in that
folder is started. Thus, if you put a link or a document in
that folder, the corresponding program is started immediately
after booting. The following instructions explain the details.
As some of the labels vary with different localizations, german
examples are given to indicate, that you would have to search
for the corresponding label on your system)
Macintosh
OS 7-9
Complete installation
of the evolution@home folder with the simulator in it. Then
- open the "startup"(german:
Startobjekte) folder in the "system"folder (german:
Systemordner) on the harddisk you boot from (e.g. MacHD).
- open the simulators
folder and click once on the simulator program to mark it.
- make an alias
of the simulator by selecting "make alias"(german:
Alias erzeugen) from the menu "file"(german: Ablage)
- move the alias
to the startup folder by drag and drop
- remove any aliases
pointing to former releases of the simulator
Now close all windows
and you are done.
Any
Windows better than 95
Complete installation
of the evolution@home folder with the simulator in it. Then
- open the autostart
(=startup) folder by clicking the following sequence:
- Start
(german: Start)
- Settings
(german: Einstellungen)
- Taskbar &
Startmenu (german: Taskleiste & Startmenü)
- Tab: Programs
in Startmenu (german: Programme im Menü "Start")
- Button: Extended
(german: Erweitert) starts the Windowsexplorer with the
content of the startmenu
- open the programs
folder (german: Programme) by double clicking it
- open the autostart
(="startup") folder (german: Autostart) by double
clicking it
- create a new
link to the simulator there:
- click in the
white space of the autostart folder with the right mousebutton
to get the context menu
- select New
(german: Neu) then Link (german: Verknüpfung)
- in the upcoming
dialog press the button to search the harddisk for where
the link should point to (german: Durchsuchen)
- in the upcoming
file-selection-dialog navigate to your simulators folder
(preferably evolution@home on your desktop) and select
the simulator-application.
- click open
(german: …ffnen) then the file dialog closes
- click next
(german: Weiter) and finish (german: Fertigstellen). Then
the link dialog closes.
- remove old links
to earlier releases of the simulator by dragging them to
the trash
Now close all windows
and you are done. There are only minor variations to this
procedure in the various versions of Windows. Although this
is not allways the fastest way, it is the most robust.
