The hottest tasks of a complexity class are always found in the file "run.txt" in the folder of the corresponding complexity class. Please select the simulations you want to compute from one of the run-files below. You may chose the same simulations several times, as each start of a task leads to a unique simulation and several runs are needed to compute the mean and other relevant statistics. If a task has been repeated often enough, it is removed from the web. Computing time estimates vary enourmously from very precise to very imprecise, so do not be surprised if a simulation runs longer or shorter than predicted. Computing time also varies significantly for different computers (the estimates here assume 0.2 MINDS (Million INDividuals per Second) on a CPU Pentium III/500 MHz; see preference or eProgress file in your simulators folder for an estimate of performance of your computer).

You may save one of the following run-files directly from your browser to your simulators folder as a text-file under the name "run" or "run.txt", if you do not care about further selections. After completing computation of a run-file, it is renamed to "completed-run-file.txt". Then submit the corresponding results-file with the name "S005_RESULTS.txt" as described here.

How to read the following table:

RAM in columns: Complexity classes for continously needed amount of nonvirtual memory for these simulations (fixed sizes)
CPU-time in rows: Complexity classes for upper limit of best estimate of computing time for tasks in this file (fixed sizes)
Simulations in cell: Number of different simulations in that run-file
CPU-time in cell: Sum of best estimate for standard computing time of that whole run-file

Please note that extensive computing times would require a simulator capable of checkpointing (not available any time soon). Computing times > 2 years should not be started on todays computers, as Moore's Law predicts that the computers available in 2 years will probably be twice as fast as those today. Thus, interpret the tasks with extremely long computing times as an exclamation mark to the general statement that evolutionary biology has an excessive need for large and powerful computers.
